Terms
Last updated: 8 November 2026
Draft. These terms have not been reviewed yet and may change before the app is released.
These terms apply between you and Christoph Altmann, Hallergasse, 1110 Vienna, Austria ("we") for the use of the Recipe Optimizer app and this website. By signing in, you agree to them. How we handle your data is explained in the Privacy Policy.
The service
Recipe Optimizer imports recipes from websites, Instagram posts, text and photos, stores them in your account and shows them in the style of your Templates, scaled to the servings you choose. Parts of it use AI (see below).
We keep the app up to date and may change features, for example to improve them, for security, because Google or Anthropic change their services, or because the law changes. Such changes cost you nothing extra, and we tell you about them. If a change makes a paid feature noticeably worse for you, you can end your subscription within 30 days of the change, and we refund what you paid for the rest of the current period.
We provide the updates needed to keep the app working and secure. Please install them when Google Play offers them; if you don't install an update we told you about, we are not responsible for problems caused only by that. The Android versions the app runs on are shown in Google Play.
Importing, AI features, syncing and sharing need an internet connection; recipes already on your phone can also be read offline. Any charges your mobile provider makes for the data you use, including roaming, are yours.
Your account
You sign in with your Google account. An account is for one person. Keep your phone and your Google account secure: anyone who can open them can open your recipes. Your Google account itself is subject to Google's terms. You must be old enough to agree to these terms under the law of your country.
Trial and subscription
- New accounts get a free Trial, currently 7 days and 20 AI Operations, whichever runs out first. You don't need to enter payment details, and the Trial ends by itself: it never turns into a paid subscription. Each Google account gets one Trial, also if you delete your account and sign up again.
- After the Trial, AI features (Renditions with their translations, and imports with AI) need a subscription, sold through Google Play monthly or yearly. The price is shown in Google Play before you buy.
- The subscription renews automatically for the same period until you cancel it. You can cancel at any time in Google Play (Payments & subscriptions); it then ends at the end of the current period. Deleting your account does not cancel it. We raise the price of a running subscription only if you agree to it in Google Play; if you don't, the subscription ends at the end of the current period.
- A subscription includes 300 AI Operations per month for normal personal use (fair use), also with the yearly plan. The count starts again each month on the day of the month you subscribed; unused AI Operations don't carry over. We do not lower this number for a period you have already paid for.
- Everything that needs no AI keeps working without a subscription: your recipes and the Renditions you already have, the Original View, scaling, cooking mode, imports that need no AI, sharing and the meal planner.
- Purchase, payment, cancellation and refunds are handled by Google Play under the Google Play Terms of Service; in the EU, Google Commerce Limited sells the subscription on our behalf. Your statutory rights remain unaffected.
- Right of withdrawal. If you are a consumer in the EU, you can withdraw from a subscription within 14 days of buying it, without giving a reason: request a refund in Google Play, or send us a clear statement that you withdraw to christoph.altmann.dev@gmail.com. If you asked for the subscription to start right away (as it does when you buy it in the app) and withdraw after using it, you pay only the part of the price that matches the time until you withdrew. Where the law ends this right earlier, Google Play tells you so before you buy.
Your content
Your recipes stay yours. You are responsible for what you import and share, including respecting the copyright of recipe websites, creators and cookbooks: import recipes for your own cooking, and share only what you may share. You give us the rights we need to store, process and display your content to provide the service, including sending it to our AI provider. Sharing a recipe creates a Public Link that makes a copy of it readable by anyone with the link; members of a shared Recipe Book see its recipes, and Editors can change and delete them.
Do not use the service to break the law, to harm others, or to overload or attack it.
Reporting content. If you think a Public Link or other content in Recipe Optimizer is illegal or infringes your rights (for example your copyright), write to christoph.altmann.dev@gmail.com with the link, what is wrong and why. A person, not an automated system, checks every report. We remove or block content that is illegal or breaks these terms, and tell both the person who reported it and the user concerned what we decided and why. You can write to us in English or German; this address is also our point of contact for users and authorities under the EU Digital Services Act.
AI results
Renditions, translations and AI imports are created by AI and can contain mistakes, such as wrong amounts, temperatures or missing ingredients. Check the recipe before cooking, especially for allergens and food safety. The Original View always shows the recipe as it was imported.
Imported recipes come from their websites, from their creators or from you. We do not check whether they are correct, and we are not responsible for the content of other websites that recipes link to.
The app
The app and this website (their code, design, texts and logo) are protected by copyright and belong to us, except for third-party components, such as open-source software, that are under their own licences. As long as you have an account, you may use the app for your own personal purposes. You may not copy, modify, decompile or reverse-engineer it, or publish your own versions of it, except where the law expressly allows it.
Liability
We are liable without limitation for damage we cause intentionally or through gross negligence, and for personal injury. For slight negligence, we are liable only if we breach an obligation that is essential for the service and that you can rely on (such as keeping your recipes stored and providing the paid features), and only for damage that is typical and foreseeable for this kind of contract. Liability under the Austrian Product Liability Act, your statutory warranty rights and other mandatory consumer protection law remain unaffected.
Ending
You can delete your account at any time in the app (Settings → Delete account); see Delete your account. This does not cancel a Google Play subscription: cancel it in Google Play. We may suspend or close an account that seriously or repeatedly breaks these terms, after a warning unless the breach is so serious that we cannot be expected to wait; we tell you why by email. If we stop offering Recipe Optimizer, we tell you by email at least two months in advance and refund the part of a paid period you can no longer use. When your account ends, your right to use the app ends too.
Changes
We may want to change these terms, for example for new features, because Google or Anthropic change their services, or because the law changes. We will email the new terms to the address of your Google account at least one month before they are meant to take effect, and explain what changes.
Changes that are only to your advantage, or that only update our contact details, apply from the date we name. Any other change applies to you only if you agree to it; the email tells you how. If you don't agree, the current terms keep applying to you. In that case we may end your use of Recipe Optimizer with two months' notice, but a running subscription no earlier than at the end of its current period. You can always delete your account instead.
Applicable law
Austrian law applies, excluding its conflict-of-law rules and the UN Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods. If you are a consumer, you also keep the protection of the mandatory law of the country you live in. The contract language is English.
